The College of Arms is seeking to recruit a full-time qualified archivist.

The archives of the College range in date from the Middle Ages to the present day, and are mainly concerned with heraldry, genealogy and ceremonial. They have a strong historical, antiquarian and topographical content.

The Archivist is responsible for the maintenance of the College’s large manuscript archive, and also for the library of printed books. This involves a wide range of tasks, and includes giving assistance to the Officers of Arms who comprise the College.

Among the other duties are: accessioning and cataloguing; assisting staff in research work; corresponding with and making manuscripts available to academic researchers; processing photographic requests; dealing with loans of manuscripts to exhibitions; administering digitisation projects. Within the College the Archivist liaises closely with the Conservation Department.

Applications are invited from fully qualified archivists with a post-graduate qualification in archives administration.
