Diamond Jubilee

Thames Pageant: The official celebrations of Her Majesty The Queen's Diamond Jubilee culminated in London with the extended weekend of 2-5 June. The Thames Pageant drew upon the long tradition of Royal and ceremonial passages on the river. The Officers of Arms for England, Wales and Northern Ireland, were joined by those for Scotland and for Canada, on the vessel Connaught, as part of the Royal Squadron. After lining the pier at Chelsea for Her Majesty's embarkation, the heralds' own vessel then took its position immediately in front of the Royal Barge, and sailed down river. Each bridge was saluted by trumpeters of the Royal Marines who were also on board to announce the imminent arrival of the Sovereign. Details of the pageant can be seen here with images of the Connaught available here and a BBC time-lapse film of the whole pageant here.

National Service of Thanksgiving: In a continuation of established tradition the centre of the national Jubilee celebrations was a service at St Paul's Cathedral in London on 5 June 2012 in the presence of Her Majesty. The Officers of Arms were in attendance.

Recently Recorded Pedigrees

Pedigrees placed on official record at the College of Arms go through a process of independent examination, in the course of which full documentary supporting evidences are produced. Once accepted the pedigree is then scrivened by hand and the entry then bound up with others in the relevant series. The process thus offers a way for genealogical research to be officially checked and proved and then the results preserved for future generations. The College archives include a great number of such entries covering families of all kinds and from all parts of the world. For further details please contact the Officer in Waiting.

BLUNDELL: A pedigree of eight generations is headed by Miles Blundell of Birkdale in the parish of North Meols, Lancashire (baptized 1741), who married Mary daughter of James Jump of Halsall, Lancashire. College reference: Norfolk 51/215.

FOTHERGILL: a pedigree of fifteen generations is headed by Lawrence Fothergill of Aiskew, parish of Bedale, Yorkshire, whose will was proved in 1593. It descends to the present day via Francis Fothergill, otherwise Francis Firby Fothergill, of Aiskew (baptized 1720), son of Francis Firby and Grace Fothergill. College reference: Norfolk 51/214.

MANDER: a pedigree of six generations has been recorded, headed by Sir Charles Tertius Mander of Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, baronet (born 1852), who married in 1882 Mary le Mesurier daughter of Henry Nicholas Paint of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
