Clarenceux
King of Arms:
by Letters Patent dated 1 September 2010, under the Great Seal, Her
Majesty The Queen has been pleased to appoint Patric Dickinson, LVO
(left), formerly Norroy and Ulster King of Arms, as
Clarenceux King of Arms, with effect from 31 August 2010. The
appointment is gazetted
here. This in the place of Hubert Chesshyre, CVO (right),
who retired from the College of Arms on that day.
Hubert Chesshyre worked at the College from 1967, at first as an
assistant. He was appointed Rouge Croix Pursuivant in 1970, being
promoted to Chester Herald in 1978. He was appointed Norroy and
Ulster King of Arms in 1995, and promoted to Clarenceux in 1997.
Hubert Chesshyre also served as Registrar of the College of Arms
from 1992 to 2000, and as Secretary of the Order of the Garter from
1988 to 2003.
Norroy and Ulster King of Arms:
by Letters Patent dated 20 September 2010, under the Great Seal, Her
Majesty The Queen has been pleased to appoint Henry Edgar
Paston-Bedingfeld (previously York Herald) as Norroy & Ulster King
of Arms, in the place of Patric Dickinson (now Clarenceux).
Wales Herald Extraordinary:
Thomas Owen Saunders Lloyd, OBE, DL, was on 2 August 2010 appointed
to this position by Her Majesty The Queen, in the place of Michael
Powell Siddons. The appointment is gazetted
here. Thomas Lloyd, an expert in Welsh heritage, is a former
Chairman of the Historic Buildings Council for Wales, and likewise
of the Cambrian Archaeological Association and the Pembrokeshire
Historical Society.
As
Wales Herald Extraordinary, Thomas Lloyd replaces
Dr Michael Siddons who has
retired after fifteen years’ distinguished service. Michael Siddons
is a widely acknowledged leader in the fields of Welsh heraldry and
genealogy, whose many writings on both subjects have served to open
them up to a wide scholarly audience. His principal work, The
Development of Welsh Heraldry has become an essential work of
reference for anyone venturing into the field of Welsh armory. His
heraldic expertise spreads far beyond Wales: his most recent works
are Heraldic Badges in England and Wales and The Heraldry
of Foreigners in England 1400-1700. A fluent Welsh speaker (and
able in many other languages), Dr Siddons has played a central role
in the development, on ancient principles, of a modern Welsh
terminology for heraldry and related topics.
